Action
Antioxidant (seleno-organic compound with antioxidant activity through a glutathione peroxidase-like action)

Status
Multicenter acute stroke trial reported January 1998 (see below). Phase II trial from Japan showed no significant difference in primary outcome measure. Trial of ebselen after subarachnoid hemorrhage showed no difference in incidence of clinically diagnosed delayed ischemia, but improvement in ebselen-treated patients.
