Action
Category includes centrally-acting anticholinesterase drugs used for symptomatic treatment of dementia. Examples include tacrine (Cognex), rivastigmine (Exelon), galantamine (Reminyl), donepezil (Aricept).

Status
Agents are FDA approved for management of dementia in Alzheimers Disease. Trials underway to evaluate them in management of vascular dementia (multi-infarct dementia).
